new on the delsin x-series is my home is sonic, a standout techno, dub and minimal album originally released in 2001 by icelandic producer arnvidur snorrason aka exos on ae recordings. exos is the son of dub techno producer octal and released three albums in his career, as well as a swathe of fine eps on labels like thule, mosaic, slow to speak and has recently being picked up by nina kraviz. his ability to build great atmospheres and heady soundscapes was unrivalled, and though they bottle up influences, they are always fresh, wintry and compelling. few have done minimal dub techno better before or since this masterpiece album, so it s right that 2015 sees it revisited by fans old and new alike.

sheik ‘n’ beik are a nyc based cohort specialising in promotion, production and outletting leftofcentre slices of electronic music. with previous releases from family members derek marin, voiski and peter corvaia their 4th release comes courtesy of danny wolfers (a.k.a legowelt) working alongside rush hour regular xosar under their xamiga alias. with this being xamiga’s 3rd release, the pair draw for their trusted arsenal of analogue gear and offer up the ‘bohemian grove’ ep, a woozy brew of foggy textures, gently frazzled hats and detroitindebted grooves. the title track kicks things off with glassy pads sat atop a longtailed thud and a sandy shuffle. a distant bass groove wades in ahead of a passage of intricate, bandpassed percussion and a circling synth line before ‘cumulus versie’ sets sheets of ethereal vocals and synth strings gently ducking under a taught analogue pulse. ‘midwest’ then sets hissing kicks and frayed hihats alongside a rasping bass tone. pitchbent synth lines then bubble into focus before ‘blizzard’ sets a dystopian tone from the off. a stout kick drum thunders under minorkey chord shifts and a menacing sequence that works to round off another fine addition to the sheik ‘n’ beik series.

rat life returns with the pagan rites on catalog number 4. little is known about the band from sweden, first signals were received in 2010 when they submitted their track 03 to the ifm demo contest. in october last year rat life sent out a submarine to search the swedish coast line for the small hut where the duo records their songs (apologies to the swedish authorities at this point, who confused our research with a russian military threat). all four tracks are packed with bittersweet melancholia, reflecting the neverending darkness of cold scandinavian winter, still the midnight sun is always in sight on the horizon! already recorded between 2008 - 2013, rat life records is very happy to finally make this music available on vinyl.

the original he serves up here is my groove, a firmly rooted and solid bit of house music with classically inclined vocal chants by gjeazon from crazy like a fox records, that recall eddie amador s biggest cut. subtle details embellish the groove and make it all the more standout, and those deep looping basslines really pull you into the middle of the track, which also has airy hi hats and a sleazy sense of funk. the first remix comes from afterparty founder, rinse fm radio host, former usher tour dj, southern fried affiliate and pioneer collaborator doorly, who also runs his own pigeon hole label. his remix smooths out the kinks and simmers a grainy groove for seven shuffling, seductive minutes. rolling effects and a big breakdown are sure to make for some fist pumping moments in the club. last to remix is play it down producer and foremost danish dj christian nielsen. he does so with an increased sense of urgency and his track hits that bit harder as a result, all thanks to a dirty down low bassline that just rolls and rolls.
